Ribbon bowl

This was an attempt at creating a ribbon effect. The bowl is turned offset, with sacrificial wood glued on the edges to keep them from bending too much under stress -- which results in uneven thickness in the ribbon. The piece, when being turned, was over two feet in diameter. The finished piece is 18 inches long, seven inches wide and two inches thick. The wood is Lacewood, from Australia. This piece wone firs place in the Master's (Open) division at the Ottawa Wood Show in 2007.
