This was turned from a Beech burl -- a rarity in my area. The different colours of wood swirling around looked something like layers in an onion when I rough turned it. After it dried for about a year, I took a look and found it had exploded like an over-the-hill rose blossom. About eight hours of careful reassembling, gluing, and turning at 200 rpm resulted in this beautiful piece of wood being saved.
